Three Teams Score at Least 70 Points during Wednesday League Action
Three different teams – Army West Point, Bucknell, Colgate – totaled at least 70 points en route to a Wednesday night victory in Patriot League action, while Lafayette and Lehigh also earned midweek wins. The top two leaders in the standings, the Bison and Black Knights, also separated themselves further from the pack with their home victories. In Army’s victory, three different players -- Kelsey Minato (26), Brianna Johnson (14), Aliyah Murray (11) -- scored double figures to help the team remain perfect at Christl Arena this season in the 77-58 win over Holy Cross. Bucknell also had three players see double digits in scoring after its 71-64 win over Loyola Maryland at Sojka Pavilion -- Jacquie Klotz (22), Claire DeBoer (20), Kaitlyn Slagus (10). Colgate posted its best second-half in any game this season en route to a 72-63 road win over Boston University. Katie Curtis led the Raiders with 20 points, while Ariel Etheridge and Chelsey Koren followed with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Winter Storm Jonas Forces Schedule Changes
Historical Winter Storm Jonas is making its way up the East Coast and forced a few teams to make changes due toexpected difficulties in traveling through the weather. Three games are still on as scheduled. Despite a blizzard warning issued for New York City bringing a possible 12 inches of snow, the Army and Navy doubleheader at Madison Square Garden is still scheduled as planned, with the women tipping off at 11:30 a.m. Loyola Maryland will get out of Baltimore just in time to head up to Hamilton for a 4 p.m. tipoff with Colgate, while Boston University will travel down to Bucknell. The Terriers and Bison will also begin at 4 p.m. Traveling out of D.C. has been what some might call a nightmare, so American and Holy Cross will now play on Tuesday, Jan. 26 in Worcester, Mass. at 7:05 p.m. Lafayette and Lehigh also decided to reschedule their rivalry game with the impending weather and will now play on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 5 p.m. Check patriotleague.org and PL_WBB via twitter for any additional updates to the weekend schedule.
Army’s Minato and Holy Cross’ Scott Named Senior CLASS Award Candidates
Two Patriot League women’s basketball student-athletes — Army West Point guard Kelsey Minato and Holy Cross forward Raquel Scott — have been named to the list of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award. The senior guard leads the League with 23.3 points per game is seventh nationally among all NCAA Division I players. Scott, a nominee for the 2015-2016 WBCA Good Works Team, is a two-time All-League selection and earned a unanimous first team nod last year. She was named one of the team captains for the season and has accumulated 1,240 points, 818 rebounds, 204 assists, and 117 steals over her four years for the Crusaders. Off the court, she is involved in many organizations and service groups within the Worcester community.
